Most wanted murder suspect arrested in Spain

26 August 2010

Operation Captura subject James Tomkins has been arrested in Spain following close collaboration between the Spanish Police, SOCA and the Metropolitan Police (MPS).

Tomkins, sought by MPS in connection with the murder of Rocky Dawson in Hornchurch in 2006, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Puerto Banus, Marbella.

Teams  from  the Spanish Police UDYCO (drugs & organised crime) units in Madrid, Malaga and Marbella – including plain clothes and uniformed armed officers – were dispatched to the address in Puerto Banus. Tomkins attempted to evade capture by jumping out of a window, but was quickly arrested by the Spanish police who used air support to keep track of  him.

Tomkins was  one of the third group of  wanted subjects whose details were released through the Crimestoppers appeal Operation Captura. He is the 35th of 50 Operation Captura subjects to be arrested to date.

Tomkins will now remain in custody in Spain pending extradition proceedings.
