Suspicious Activity Reports regime Annual Report 2009

The Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) Annual Report 2009 is now available. The Report gives the SARs Regime Committee’s assessment of the performance of the SARs Regime over the year from October 2008 to end September 2009.

The SARs Annual Report 2009 is part of SOCA’s ongoing commitment to communicate regularly with reporters of SARs, end users and other stakeholders to keep them informed of how their hard work has had an impact on fighting crime and terrorism.

Highlights from the report include:

End users of SARs have confirmed that the quality of SARs has continued to improve, and that the information reporters provide is of value for law enforcement purposes. The regime is helping deliver significant law enforcement results and is functioning better than ever before. Examples of these successful outcomes are included in the report.

There has been more dialogue between SOCA and other regime participants, including broader outreach to ‘hard to reach’ sectors. SOCA has produced both mass marketed and bespoke communications products tailored for particular industry reporting sectors, ensuring the appropriate message reaches the appropriate reporter.

There have been improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of the processing of SARs, with data matching exercises and increased collaborative working generating more intelligence, adding value to the SARs regime.

The report introduces a new three-year approach to drive future large scale improvement to the regime, ensuring it remains a global leader in best practice.
